Aluminum Angle & Angle Iron Supplier

Aluminum usually comes up in a conversation for one reason: something needs real strength without the extra weight steel adds. Beyond that, the real question is which grade fits the job and who has it in stock today instead of six weeks from now.

Triple-S Steel® is the aluminum angle supplier with the sizes fabricators and manufacturers need on hand, backed by a network of locations that can get material to your shop fast, whether you want a handful of pieces for a prototype or an ongoing supply for a production run.

Let us help you keep your project on track and on budget.

Aluminum Angle Grades We Stock

Aluminum angle iron isn't a single product; it's a family of alloys, and each one is suited to a different kind of job. The grade you need depends on strength, weldability, and how the piece holds up once it's in the field. Both grades come to us as aluminum angle extrusion straight from the mill, which is what gives them that clean, consistent corner and even wall thickness from piece to piece.

Here's what we keep on hand and when each one makes sense.

6061 Aluminum Angle

6061 aluminum angle is our go-to grade, and it's what most fabricators reach for on structural work. It has a radiused inside corner that adds rigidity, and it holds up well under load without adding much weight. We stock it across a wide size range, from small bar angle up through heavy structural sizes, so if your project needs to carry weight or handle stress, 6061-T6 is usually the right call.

In inches, 6061 aluminum angle sizes range from:

  • Minimum: 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/16
  • Maximum: 3 x 3 x 1/4

6063 Aluminum Angle

For more specialized needs, we also supply 6063 aluminum angle. It has a sharper corner and a smoother finish, which is why it shows up so often in architectural and decorative work. It's not built for heavy structural loads, but it takes anodizing and finishing well, so it's a favorite for storefronts and window framing.

In inches, 6063 aluminum angle sizes range from:

  • Minimum: 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/16
  • Maximum: 3 x 3 x 1/4

To sum it up: Aluminum angle bar covers the smaller end of both ranges, the sizes fabricators reach for most often on brackets and general shop work, while the larger 6061 sizes are built for load bearing jobs like equipment frames and support structures.

Need It Cut to Size?

Not every job calls for a full length. Ask about our Cut-to-Length Service if you need aluminum angle stock trimmed down to size. It saves you the extra shop time and keeps you from paying to ship and store material you'd only end up cutting down yourself.

Applications for Aluminum Angle

Fabricators and manufacturers reach for aluminum angle anywhere they need a rigid corner without the weight of steel. Common uses include:

  • Equipment frames and machine bases
  • Support brackets and mounting hardware
  • Trailer and truck body framing
  • Solar panel racking and mounting systems
  • HVAC ductwork bracing
  • Marine equipment and dock structures
  • Architectural trim, storefront framing, and window framing
  • Shelving, racking, and storage systems
  • Fencing and railing framework
  • Electrical enclosures and cabinet framing

Whatever the application, weight and corrosion resistance are usually the reasons aluminum wins out over steel.

Why Buy Aluminum From Triple-S Steel

Triple-S Steel® has been a family-run metals business since 1960, and that shows up in how we treat customers. We keep aluminum angle in stock across our network of locations, so you're not stuck waiting weeks on a material that should be readily available.

We're also part of a bigger family of companies. Borrmann Metals, one of our subsidiary brands, carries aluminum alongside carbon and stainless steel, so if you ever need something outside our standard angle inventory, chances are good that one of our sister companies can help.

That kind of reach also means better grade availability and steadier supply, plus the ability to add complementary shapes like plate and sheet to the same quote as your aluminum angle. For fabricators and manufacturers running on tight schedules, that means one less supplier to chase down and one less gap in your material flow.

Whatever your project calls for, our team can help you land on the right grade and size, then get it to your shop on your timeline. Contact us or request a quote to get started.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is aluminum angle as strong as steel angle?

Not pound for pound in stiffness. Steel is roughly three times stiffer, so aluminum angle will flex more under the same load. That said, comparing 6061-T6 aluminum to common hot-rolled steel, the yield strengths are surprisingly close. For most applications, aluminum angle just needs to be sized a little larger or thicker to match what steel can do.

What's the difference between 6061 and 6063 aluminum angle?

6061 is the structural choice. It's stronger and holds up better under load. 6063 has a sharper corner and a cleaner surface finish, which is why it's used more in architectural and decorative work rather than anything load-bearing.

Will aluminum angle rust outdoors?

No. Aluminum forms a natural oxide layer that protects it from corrosion, which is a big reason fabricators choose it for outdoor structures, marine equipment, and anything exposed to moisture.

Can aluminum angle be welded?

Yes, though it welds differently from steel and typically calls for TIG or MIG welding with the right filler alloy. 6061 is weldable but loses some strength in the heat-affected zone, so some fabricators prefer bolting or riveting for critical structural joints instead.
